This is the earliest picture in existence taken with a camera circa 1827 by Joseph Nicéphore Niépce of France. Many speculate it was actually taken with a potato. 

Ever since the invention of the camera and the culmination of brilliant minds to bring still pictures in to fruition,  photography has been a powerful way to capture a single moment in time.
